The original Cart stack, which allowed you to add a simple PayPal-powered shopping cart to your Rapidweaver website and was suitable for setting up a shop that sold small numbers of individual items, was a firm favourite of ours. This was because Yuzool produced something that was inexpensive, flexible (Cart elements were stacks that could be placed anywhere on a Stacks page) and was quick and easy to set up.

Though somewhat more expensive, Cart 2 follows the same principles, but adds the ability to use the popular Stripe payment gateway, thus allowing you to take credit card payments. For those online shoppers who are still wary of PayPal (and there are plenty of them) this will be a real boon.

Let’s look at what you get for your $39.00.

There are five stacks in all.

  • Base stack – sets the overall style for the cart, defines whether to include PayPal and or Stripe and needs to be on every page where you want to display your shopping cart.
  • Cart stack – displays the View Cart button which brings up a pop-up window displaying the current contents of the cart.
  • Clear stack – ensures the cart is cleared whether the shopper completes or abandons the purchase.
  • Item stack – allows you to set the name of the item, how much it costs, shipping, discounts, style and so on, and displays a ‘pay me’ button.
  • Variable stack – lets you define variables for individual products like colour, size and so on.

Having placed the Base stack on a page you can then set the various colours – close button, background, content background, border, title, sub-title text and so on; and here you can also turn ‘accept terms’ on or off, set the text that displays inside the cart, set up Stripe with your two keys, add an address and set success messages. You can even customise the Stripe and PayPal checkout buttons, which may be useful if your site is particularly stylised.

The Cart stack has controls for button colour, simple styling and positioning and a slot for your PayPal details, and the latest release allows you to switch between a button and an icon, which is useful on mobile devices; though currently you have to use two View cart stacks and have Stacks hide or show them depending on screen size.

The Item stack has visual controls but also lets you specify the currency, amount of the item, shipping costs, whether there are limited numbers of a particular item, if a discount needs to be applied, as well as setting up success and cancel URLs so you can direct visitors to the appropriate page depending on whether they complete or abandon their purchase; you should drop the Clear stack onto these pages as well, since it’s job is to ensure the cart is emptied and that no money accidentally gets carried over to the next purchase.

The Variable stack has exactly the same feature set as the Item stack with the addition of – yes – variables, so you can define characteristics like the size and colour of a particular item and have them appear on a drop-down list. The latest update adds the ability to style this drop down – setting colours for border, background and text as well as border radius and thickness, padding and font size. Alternatively, you can just let the theme handle the styling.

As we’ve said before, because Cart 2 is a suite of Stacks, it means you’re not stuck with whatever limited layout options an external store or plugin might offer and you can go off and design a storefront that genuinely reflects the look and feel of the rest of your site. Some Rapidweaver users have already combined this successfully with InStacks’ [Poster stack]( for example, to produce great-looking shopfronts. Customisation options – from colour schemes to the ability to add your own logo to the Stripe checkout dialogue – abound in this new version, but it still preserves the elegance of the original, along with a super-speedy pop-up cart which barely impacts on page performance.

Cart 2 is a terrific solution for those Rapidweaver users who want to design their own shopfront and take credit card payments along with PayPal. It’s already been revised twice – which shows Yuzool listens and acts on feedback – and can only get even better over subsequent releases. Recommended.
