Zoom Stack | Marathia | €5.00
We’ve always rather liked the lightbox effect used by the Medium blogging platform – especially the way it lets you expand an image while keeping your place in the page flow and then close and return it to its original position by continuing to scroll down. We’ve found several Rapidweaver stacks that come close to reproducing this effect but never one that mimics it so accurately.
So we were pleased to come across the Zoom Stack from Marathia. It’s a budget stack that does one thing – really nicely. Drop it onto your page, define which images you’d like to apply the zoom-and-lightbox effect to, set the overlay colour and opacity, and you’re done.
Zoom is clever enough to only apply itself to those images that have a specific text string – defined by you – in either the image name or the associated ALT tag; which means you can also incorporate images on the page that don’t use the effect. This makes it an extremely flexible tool for only applying itself to the images you want to highlight. It doesn’t work on images you’ve set up as links and you shouldn’t use more than one on the page (not sure why you’d want to) but otherwise we found Zoom well behaved across a number of different themes.
This is a neat little stack with a lightbox effect subtly unlike anything else we’ve seen outside of Medium; and if that’s the effect you’re looking for, then buying it is a no-brainer.
