This is a clever little animated pop up stack which would be useful for displaying any group of links — to your social media sites for example, or perhaps to collections of videos on YouTube and Vimeo, or maybe just to other pages on your site. The pop-up is triggered by a button which can display an icon, some text or both and you have full control over the button’s appearance – background and foreground colours, hover colours, radius, choice of icon (there are over 300 included with the stack) and so on. There’s also a choice of 13 subtle yet effective animations, and the whole stack behaves impeccably on smaller devices with touch screens where a tap triggers the pop-up and a second tap closes it again.
To get started you just drop the Pop stack onto a Stacks page. By default it displays a cog icon on a blue button which, when clicked, reveals three magnifying glass icons. The settings panel makes it easy to change the look and feel of this, pick different icons, set the number of icons displayed in the pop-up, and assign links to each of the pop-up icons. The button is available in three sizes (small, medium and large) which should ensure that it sits comfortably a wide range of different Rapidweaver themes; alternatively, Pop stack can be triggered from an image instead. The pop-up bar can be set to appear above or below the trigger and display on click or mouse pointer hover; and there’s a handy sample which displays in Edit mode so you don’t have to keep flipping back and forth between that and Preview in order to see what it’ll look like.
Pop stack is a great little stack and we can see it being used extensively on plain and simple sites to sprinkle a bit of electronic fairy dust over your links – especially if space is at a premium. And it behaves very well on small touchscreen devices.
