RapidWeaver Central | HoverLiftThing | £5.00
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new stack from Weaverthings and it’s reassuring to know that Angus McPheep and the gang haven’t lost their touch. If you want good-looking animations but you’re not of a mind to fork out $30 for a jack-of-all-trades stack, then HoverLiftThing is one of the simplest and most effective animated stacks we’ve come across because it masters one thing, really well.
Just pop a HoverLiftThing stack onto the page and from then on, any stack you place inside it will be treated with same effect – it will be ‘lifted’ off your web page when a visitor hovers over it with the mouse pointer. This makes HoverLiftThing great for producing product pages where you have multiple items that are presented in similar style and you want to make it clear to visitors which one is currently selected.
You can add a background to the stack and set its opacity as well as defining a border colour and 3px worth of rounded corner; in addition, it’s possible to make the entire HoverLiftThing stack a link, which again is really useful for product pages or if you’re putting together a shop.
HoverLift also includes the BackgroundThing stack which can be used to add a coloured background, a gradient fill or a local/warehoused image. Used in conjunction with HoverLiftThing this can create some pretty slick look transparent overlay effects.
At first we thought that HoverLiftThing‘s inherent 3D design wouldn’t sit well with the current vogue for flat web pages but actually it’s very effective, especially when used as the only animation on the page. HoverLift is an excellent way to introduce a sophisticated, subtle animation to your Stacks pages.
